After enjoying breakfast, set out on an unforgettable excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park. Depart from El Calafate and travel approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) to reach the glacier, situated in the southwestern corner of Lago Argentino. The highlight of the National Park, and a recognized World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Perito Moreno Glacier stretches for 19 miles, spans 3 miles wide, and towers 197 feet high. Accompanied by your guide, walk along a 1,300-foot (400-meter) trail leading to a spectacular viewpoint near the glacier. Spend around two hours at this site; after an hour’s walk, your guide will allow free time to capture photos and marvel at the breathtaking views of the glacier and lake. Perito Moreno is one of the world’s few advancing glaciers, moving forward a little every day. With some luck, you might witness huge chunks of ice breaking off and plunging dramatically into the water. Feel free to bring your own food or dine at the restaurant inside the park. After breakfast, depart your hotel for a visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park, located just 11 kilometers from Ushuaia. Discover stunning lakes, lagoons, and rivers, along with views of the Beagle Channel. Starting from Maipú Avenue, head southwest along National Route 3, passing the slopes of Mount Susana—once the site of the old prison, now home to the Fuegian Train. Here, you’ll have the option to take an additional train tour. Continue through the valley to the turnoff toward Ensenada Bay, where you’ll see Redonda and Estorbo Islands, the opposite shore of the Beagle Channel, and the snow-capped Sampaio Mountains in Chile. Rejoin Route 3, surrounded by Fuegian forest, and continue to Roca Lake for a scenic walk along its shoreline and the Lapataia River, which originates from the lake. From here, Cerro Condor marks the natural border with Chile. Proceed to the end of the park, where National Route 3 terminates at Lapataia Bay. Here, you’ll visit the Green and Black Lagoons and observe an impressive peat bog in formation. The route also passes beaver dams on the way to Lapataia Bay. Overnight in Ushuaia.
