Tour Description
DAY 1: Arrival at El Chaltén:
El Chaltén
Upon your arrival at the bus terminal, you will be greeted and transferred to your centrally located hotel. The remainder of the day is yours to explore and enjoy at your leisure.
Day 2: Trekking on the Cagliero Glacier in El Chaltén:
El Chaltén
At 9:00 a.m., we will begin our trekking adventure, hiking along the Diablo River for approximately two hours through a lush lenga forest on a well-maintained trail, leading us to Laguna del Diablo (770 meters above sea level).
Around 11:00 a.m., the second stage of the excursion starts, following the northern shore of Laguna del Diablo over easy yet uneven terrain until we reach the start of a via ferrata (a low-difficulty rock-climbing section). This portion covers 1 km with 200 meters of elevation gain.
It takes about an hour to reach the glacier viewpoint, where we will have impressive views of the remote Cagliero South Glacier (950 meters above sea level). From this lookout, a short walk brings us to the glacier’s edge, where the guides will equip participants with crampons before starting the third segment: the glacier walk and trek. We will spend approximately 2 hours on the glacier, weather and group fitness permitting.
We will return along the same route, arriving back at the information center about 3 hours later. The transfer back to El Chaltén is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., returning to the hotels at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Day 3: Rafting El Chaltén:
El Chaltén
After distributing rafting equipment to each participant, you’ll head with the guides to the river access point for a briefing on rafting techniques and safety guidelines.
Once you’ve practiced paddling techniques and reviewed safety measures, the group boards the raft and begins the experience on the river. The initial stretch covers four kilometers of calm, winding waters with the stunning Fitz Roy as a backdrop—perfect for getting comfortable with the raft and river, and practicing the skills needed for the next phase.
The journey continues into the ravine section. After the first rapid, you’ll encounter a thrilling series of rapids over 8 km. The swift river provides an exhilarating ride, with waves and drops in pure, crystal-clear water—a truly natural adventure. The final segment offers a 2 km stretch of tranquil water for a relaxing finish.
Day 4: Desert Lake Navigation with Trekking:
Vespignani Glacier:
We depart El Chaltén by bus, traveling 36 km along a scenic route through forests and along the Río de las Vueltas to Lago del Desierto.
From the Punta Sur dock, enjoy a 30-minute navigation while admiring the Huemul and Crestón glaciers before disembarking at the Vespignani Glacier area, located mid-lake.
Upon arrival, we begin the trekking portion, always accompanied by a guide for safety. You can choose from several well-marked trails within the Vespignani Glacier Reserve, depending on your preferred level of challenge and exertion:
The most demanding trail takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace, overcoming 150 meters of elevation to reach the foot of the Vespignani Glacier, featuring incredible views of the north face of Mount Fitz Roy.
Alternatively, the intermediate trail offers a gentle, steady ascent, leading to a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the glacier in just 15 minutes.
After a farewell snack, we board the boat once again to return to the Punta Sur dock, where the bus awaits to take us back to El Chaltén.
Day 5: Bye bye El Chaltén
El Chaltén
In the morning, after breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and have some free time before your transfer arrives to take you to the bus terminal in El Chaltén.
