Tour Description
Discover one of Patagonia’s most spectacular adventures with our excursion to Cerro Tronador and the Ventisquero Negro Glacier. This full-day experience invites you to explore the tallest summit in Nahuel Huapi National Park, a region defined by vibrant turquoise lakes, lush native forests, and age-old glaciers.
Your journey begins early with a hotel pick-up in downtown Bariloche. From there, enjoy a scenic drive heading south, following the shores of the area's most stunning lakes: Lake Gutiérrez and Lake Mascardi.
After leaving the paved road, we’ll continue along an adventurous gravel track that traces the upper Manso River. Along the way, we’ll pause at several iconic viewpoints on the route:
Black Beach: Featuring unique dark sands along the shores of Lake Mascardi.
The Rapids: A perfect spot to witness the power of Patagonian waters, complete with a rest area and restroom facilities.
Heart Island Viewpoint: Capture the most iconic photograph of Lake Mascardi, featuring its famous heart-shaped island.
Around midday, we’ll reach Pampa Linda, a stunning valley at the mountain’s base. Here, you’ll have a scheduled lunch break, offering a chance to savor local cuisine in a remarkable natural setting (restrooms available).
In the afternoon, we’ll travel by bus to the impressive Ventisquero Negro, a striking hanging glacier renowned for its unique dark coloration and the floating chunks of ice and mud in its lagoon—a true marvel of nature that will leave you in awe.
For your safety and the best possible experience, the itinerary adapts to the ever-changing Patagonian weather:
☀️ Spring/Summer Season
When seasonal access is open, two additional highlights at the mountain’s base enhance your adventure:
Devil’s Throat: Enjoy an easy walk along a gentle trail leading to a massive natural amphitheater of stone, crowned by impressive waterfalls of meltwater.
Three Peaks Viewpoint: Cross the bridge over the Lower Manso River to take in the panoramic views of Cerro Tronador’s three peaks: the Argentinian Peak (3410 m), the International Peak (3554 m), and the Chilean Peak (3474 m).
❄️ Autumn/Winter Season
During colder months, heavy snowfall and challenging road conditions limit vehicle access to the deepest parts of the trail. As a result, the excursion does not continue to Devil’s Throat or include direct views of the three peaks, ensuring a safe and enjoyable walk while appreciating the breathtaking winter scenery of the National Park.
