Tour Description
In the morning, your guide will pick you up at your hotel to take you to the Limay River. This magnificent river winds through the Patagonian steppe, an impressive region within the National Park known for its breathtaking scenery and pleasant weather. The river’s crystal-clear waters, stunning landscapes, and excellent fishing conditions make a float trip on the Limay River an unforgettable adventure. As the most significant river in the National Park, it provides a variety of fishing opportunities suitable for both beginners and experienced anglers. The Limay River is home to Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, and Patagonian Perch.
The best season for dry fly fishing on the Limay River is from November to March. In April, large trout migrate from the nearby lake into the river to start their spawning cycle. The Limay River features five distinct sections, each approximately 12 km long, near San Carlos de Bariloche, offering diverse fishing excursions. Upon arrival at the Limay River embarkation point, your guide will detail the two fishing methods available for your excursion: Fly Fishing: This technique uses “dressed” hooks—imitations of insects, small fish, or shrimp—cast with a specially weighted line and requires a precise casting method. While it takes some practice to master, fly fishing is rapidly gaining popularity across the globe.Spinning: This technique involves casting and retrieving artificial lures, like spoons, which mimic the movement of small aquatic creatures. If you present the lure convincingly, the aggressive trout are sure to strike.
Your adventure then begins, floating down the Limay River and fishing with your chosen technique.
After about two hours of fishing from the boat, you will stop at the riverbank for a delicious outdoor lunch surrounded by nature. Following a relaxing break, you will continue floating and fishing in the afternoon, exploring the prime fishing locations along the Limay River. With your guide by your side, you’ll discover the history of the San Carlos de Bariloche area and learn about the top fishing spots and native fish species. After covering 12 km during the day, your guide will accompany you to the river’s departure point, where vehicles will be waiting to return you to your hotel. The fishing season officially opens each year on November 1st and ends within Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia. However, for those interested in off-season fishing, Lakes Nahuel Huapi, Gutierrez, and Mascardi are accessible throughout May and October. Lake Moreno offers year-round fishing for all three methods, making it a perfect winter destination. Our guests include anglers of all ages and skill levels, from complete novices to seasoned experts. No prior fishing experience is required to enjoy our trips! Our guides are eager to share their local expertise and fishing knowledge with everyone, regardless of experience. Every excursion is customized to fit your preferences and needs.
