Fishing Day On The Manso River, Hess Lake Or Los Moscos Lake

Book a private Fishing day—choose from fly fishing, spinning, or trolling—guided by the most experienced local experts. You’ll embark on a Float with Wade adventure on your choice of the Manso River, Hess Lake, or Los Moscos Lake (select one location). This fishing trip accommodates up to two anglers per cata-raft, specially designed boats ideal for navigating mountain rivers and perfectly suited for lakes where motorboats are prohibited.

On the Manso River, enjoy an approximate 12 km float, casting lines from the boat and stopping to wade at the prime fishing locations that are usually inaccessible to most. On the lakes, we’ll access the top fishing spots. Around midday, savor a delicious lunch freshly prepared and served right on the riverbank.

After lunch, we’ll continue floating and fishing throughout the afternoon until arriving at the river or lake exit point, where our team awaits with vehicles and trailers. You’ll have time to change before we transfer you back to your hotel or accommodation.

We supply all the essential fishing gear: waders, boots, rods, reels, lines, flies, lures, and more.

Tour Description

In the morning, your expert guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you to your chosen destination: Rio Manso, Lake Hess, or Lake Los Moscos.

Rio Manso winds through scenic Andean valleys, surrounded by lush forests and towering mountains. This river links several lakes, including Mascardi, Los Moscos, La Medialuna, Hess, and Steffen. Rio Manso is well-known for offering anglers the opportunity to catch rainbow, brown, and brook trout. It is situated 65 km from Bariloche.

Lake Hess is a stunning spot where only rowboat fishing is permitted. Its shores are lush with vegetation, providing nesting grounds for aquatic birds. This lake is an excellent location for fishing with large dry flies. On lucky days, a dragonfly hatch can create unforgettable moments, with large trout leaping out of the water to catch them. Lake Hess is located 60 km from Bariloche.

Lake Los Moscos is a small lake with a diameter of about 4 km, with the Manso River flowing through it from east to west. This area allows for a combination of fishing across the whole lake and about three kilometers of the Manso River to the west, exclusively by rowboat. Anglers can catch brown, rainbow, and brook trout here.

All three locations are set within a breathtaking area of the National Park, boasting remarkable scenery and a pleasant climate.

Upon arrival at the embarkation point, your guide will introduce you to the recommended fishing techniques for the excursion:

Fly fishing: This technique involves casting flies—specially crafted hooks that imitate insects, small fish, or shrimp—using a weighted line designed for this purpose and a specific casting method. While fly fishing requires practice and dedication to master the casting technique, it is increasingly popular worldwide.
Spinning: In spinning, you cast and retrieve artificial lures, such as spoons, to imitate the movement of small prey in the water, enticing trout to strike. Spinning is permitted in all lakes and certain river sections and can be done from the shore or boats. We recommend ultra-light equipment and simple barbless hooks.
Trolling: Nahuel Huapi National Park features many pristine lakes ideal for trolling. This method involves slowly dragging artificial lures behind a motorboat while taking in the beautiful scenery.

After learning the fishing methods, the adventure begins, as you sail on the Manso River, Lake Hess, or Lake Los Moscos and fish using your selected technique.

Following two hours of fishing from the boat, you will dock on the river or lake shore to enjoy a delicious outdoor lunch. After a short rest, you will continue floating and fishing in the afternoon, exploring the prime locations of the Manso River or the lakes.

Your guide will always be by your side, sharing insights about the history of the San Carlos de Bariloche region and the best fishing opportunities and fish species found in the area.

After covering 12 km throughout the day, your guide will bring you to the exit point of the River or Lakes, where vehicles will be waiting to return you to your hotel.

Fishing Season

The fishing season in Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia, runs annually from November 1st to April 30th. For off-season fishing, Nahuel Huapi, Gutierrez, and Mascardi lakes are open during May and October. Lake Moreno remains open for all fishing methods year-round, making it a great winter fishing destination.
