Reserve a private half-day fishing excursion, choosing between Fly Fishing or Spinning, guided by our expert and top local guides. They will take you on an unforgettable float trip along the Limay River. This adventure is designed for two anglers aboard Cata-Rafts, which are specially crafted boats ideal for navigating fast-flowing mountain rivers—perfect for fishing in places that motorboats can’t reach. We’ll float approximately 12 km (7 miles) down the Limay River during this half-day tour, fishing from the raft as we drift and making frequent stops to wade and fish from the riverbanks at the prime spots.

At the end of the journey, our team will be waiting downstream with trucks and trailers to return everyone comfortably to their accommodations.

All fishing equipment and tackle are provided, including rods, reels, lines, flies, waders, boots, and more.

IMPORTANT: When booking, please specify your preferred type of fishing and/or desired location.

Tour Description

Your guide will collect you directly from your hotel in Bariloche and take you towards the stunning Limay River. Recognized as the most significant river in the National Park, the Limay flows from the vast Nahuel Huapi Lake’s eastern edge, about 17 km (11 miles) from the city. The river meanders through arid, rocky mesas dotted with pine forests, offering breathtaking views and excellent weather conditions. The Limay River is teeming with rainbow and brown trout, as well as some Patagonian perch, making it a paradise for anglers. From November to March, dry fly fishing opportunities are abundant, while in April—the final month of the season—large trout migrate from the lake to the river. Anglers can choose from five distinct river sections, each approximately 10 miles long. The crystalline waters, magnificent landscapes, and superb fishing combine to make this floating excursion truly unforgettable.
Upon reaching the boarding area along the Limay River, your guide will introduce you to the fishing techniques available for the excursion:
  • Fly-fishing: Utilizing a specialized weighted line and “dressed” hooks designed to imitate insects, minnows, or shrimp, you will cast using a variety of methods. While fly-fishing requires patience and some practice to perfect your cast, it has become increasingly popular worldwide. Every year, seasoned anglers from across the globe travel to Patagonia to fish these pristine and secluded waters, while beginners are equally welcome to improve their skills.
  • Spinning: This approach uses artificial lures, such as spoons or spinners, with an appropriate rod and reel, suitable for both shore and boat fishing. We recommend ultra-light gear and lures, ideally equipped with single barbless hooks, for an optimal experience.
Next, embark on your floating journey down the Limay River, fishing as you go and discovering the best spots the Rio Limay has to offer.
With your guide at your side, you’ll also learn about the history of the Bariloche region, the top fishing opportunities, and the fascinating local wildlife.
After an exciting morning or afternoon of drifting and fishing, you'll return to shore, where our team will be waiting to take you back to your hotel.
Fishing season
The fishing season officially runs from November 1st to May 1st each year throughout the National Park. For off-season fishing, the lakes Nahuel Huapi, Gutiérrez, and Mascardi are open during May and October, while Moreno Lake remains open year-round for all fishing methods.
