Experience the First Fjord of Chilean Patagonia with this Full-Day Kayak Adventure starting from Puerto Varas.
Your day begins early as our comfortable van collects you from your hotel around 8:30 a.m. We set off on a scenic 35-minute drive along the breathtaking shores of Lake Llanquihue towards our base in Ensenada. Along the way, you’ll enjoy several opportunities to photograph the stunning scenery that surrounds this iconic lake.
Upon arrival at our Ensenada base, our certified guides—experts in swiftwater rescue and first aid—will welcome you. Here, we provide all the necessary gear for your kayaking adventure: neoprene suits and boots to keep you warm, windproof jackets, and regularly updated certified life jackets. A comprehensive first-aid kit and phone communication are also available to guarantee your safety throughout the excursion.
Setting out from the mouth of the Petrohué River in Ralún Bay, we begin our exciting paddle through the peaceful, sheltered waters of the Reloncaví Fjord. After a thorough safety and navigation briefing from our guides, you’ll take to the water and start exploring. The first segment of the journey—about 1.5 hours—leads us to the Rollizo Peninsula, a picturesque area where Yolanda’s family has farmed for generations. Here, we’ll enjoy a homemade lunch in their welcoming home, surrounded by meadows that reach down to the sea—a perfect time to unwind and stretch your legs.
After lunch, we continue paddling south, with the majestic Yates Volcano providing a dramatic backdrop. Along this stretch, it’s common to encounter local wildlife such as sea lions, dolphins, and various seabirds as we make our way to Cochamó, a destination famed worldwide for its climbing walls.
At the conclusion of our kayak adventure, we visit the charming fishing village of Cochamó, taking in its panoramic views of the fjord and the valley to the east. After a pleasant walk along the waterfront, we return to Puerto Varas, arriving between 6:00 and 7:00 PM.
