Glaciarium With Glaciobar

The Glaciarium is conveniently situated just 7 km from El Calafate, along the route leading to the renowned Perito Moreno Glacier. For this reason, the facility provides complimentary transfers from a designated meeting point in town, with departures every hour or half hour, and return trips also departing every thirty minutes. The first shuttle runs from El Calafate to Glaciarium at opening time, while the last return from Glaciarium to El Calafate coincides with closing time.

This experience does not require a fixed schedule except for the Glaciarium’s opening and closing hours. While the estimated duration is approximately 3 hours — including your museum visit and a 20-minute session at the Glacio Bar ice bar — guests are free to enjoy their visit according to their own pace and preferences.

Upon entering Glaciarium, you will walk through a dark hallway enhanced by the soothing sound of melting water droplets. Informative panels will guide you through the formation of ice, the history of explorers and scientists, and glaciological eras, all complemented by stunning photographs from distinguished Argentine photographers such as Florian Von der Flecht, Daniel Wagner, and Andrés Bonetti.

Inside, you’ll discover a large-scale model of theice field, representing the origin of the glaciers you will later see. There is also a commemorative display dedicated to Francisco Pascasio Moreno.

The tour features a dedicated section for the iconic Perito Moreno Glacier, famous for its natural dam and the dramatic ruptures that occur periodically. The visit concludes in a tunnel with a state-of-the-art projection system, raising awareness about the pressing issue of climate change.

Beyond the main exhibits, Glaciarium offers an exhibition hall featuring photography and painting displays. The “Alberto M. De Agostini” auditorium/cinema showcases the captivating documentary “La Voz del Glaciar,” with breathtaking aerial drone footage. The venue is fully equipped with audio and video technology for events focused on glaciology, nature, and adventure.

Before you leave, make sure to explore the Eco-Shop, which features a selection of designer items and eco-friendly crafts, many made from recycled or natural materials such as pure wool. If you’re looking to unwind, the Glaciarium café is the perfect spot, offering panoramic views of Lake Argentino and the Patagonian steppe.

The Glacio Bar boasts a unique setting in the heart of Argentine Patagonia. With a space of 80 m² and an ambient temperature of -10 °C, every element in the bar — from the walls and furniture to the glasses, bar, and chairs — is sculpted from glacier ice.

Upon entry, guests receive thermal cloaks and gloves. The interior temperature ranges from -6 to -10 °C. The 20-minute session is enhanced with dynamic lighting, music, and entertainment, providing a lively atmosphere as you enjoy an included shot and drink (options include white spirits, aperitifs, liqueurs, and non-alcoholic beverages).
