The “Loma del Diablo” offers a truly wild and distinctive trekking experience.
Located in a mid-mountain setting, the trail to La Loma del Diablo hill remains largely undiscovered and rarely traveled, providing a genuine connection with the untamed Patagonian landscape. This route is accessible to hikers and skiers of all skill levels who wish to venture onto its snow-covered, glacier-free slopes.
The journey starts from the Laguna Cóndor Refuge, situated 17 km from El Chaltén. The ascent follows a peaceful path through a dense lenga forest, leading to rocky terrain that guides us along the mountaintop ridge to the summit.
At an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level, we will take in breathtaking panoramic views that encompass the Pirque area, Purgatorio Hill, Blanco Hill, and sweeping vistas of the Andes, stretching from La Paloma Hill to Castillo Hill.

Tour Description

The tour begins at approximately 08:00 am with pick-up from your hotel in the central area of El Chaltén. We will depart from town and travel 17 km by car to reach the Laguna Cóndor Refuge.
Upon arrival at the refuge, we will start our trek through a beautiful lenga forest, which will guide us upwards as we gain elevation. After about an hour of hiking, the forest opens to a spacious rocky terrain that also provides the option to ascend San Roque hill. Our chosen path leads to Loma del Diablo, following the ridge between the Maipo River and the Clarillo River. With no defined trail, we will make our way along the entire mountain ridge to the summit, with an ascent that is considered low difficulty. Loma del Diablo is renowned for its broad faces and corridors of varying slopes, making it suitable for all skill levels.
After about two hours of ascent, we will arrive at the summit, standing at 1,200 meters above sea level. Here, we will pause to enjoy lunch and take in the breathtaking panoramic views offered at the top. To the northwest, we will see Purgatorio Hill, to the west lies Cerro Blanco, and we will also be able to observe a wide expanse of the metropolitan Andes, stretching from Cerro la Paloma to Castillo Hill.
Around 2:00 pm, we will begin our descent along the same route back to Refugio Laguna Cóndor. After approximately 7 hours and 20 km of trekking, we will enjoy a final break with a snack and a hot drink.
The tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel at approximately 5:00 pm.
