Tour Description
Embark on a day filled with technical adventure and breathtaking wilderness at the End of the World. Discover below the detailed itinerary for this incredible high-mountain trekking experience in Ushuaia:
Begin at Tierra Mayor Valley
Our journey starts with the pick-up service from selected hotels, transferring you to the adventure’s starting point in the Tierra Mayor Valley. The initial segment winds through pristine native forests and peat bogs, characteristic of Tierra del Fuego’s unique landscape. After about one hour of hiking, we arrive at the renowned Emerald Lagoon, where we pause briefly to rest and appreciate its stunning, vibrant hues.
Technical Ascent Across the Andes Mountains
After circling the lagoon, the adventure intensifies with the ascent over rocky slopes (scree). This is the most challenging part of the trek:
-
Intensity: A steady uphill hike lasting approximately 3 hours.
-
Landscape: Leaving the forest behind, we are surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Andes Mountains.
-
Safety: We traverse striking orange rock faces to reach a natural balcony offering spectacular panoramic views of Emerald Lagoon.
In the final ascent, depending on the season and terrain conditions, you may need to use your hands for support. Wearing a helmet and technical equipment is required, with our expert guides accompanying you every step of the way to ensure your safety.
Reach the Glacier and Enjoy a Mountain Lunch
After around 4.5 hours of trekking, you’ll be rewarded with the spectacular sight of the Ojo del Albino Glacier.
-
The Setting: Marvel at the impressive 20-meter high glacier wall and a striking green meltwater lagoon.
-
Winter Season: During winter, the lagoon freezes and is cloaked in snow, making it possible to walk right up to the glacier’s base.
In this awe-inspiring natural setting, we enjoy a hearty mountain lunch, recharge, and take in the tranquility of the summit before returning along the same route.
