Tour Description

At approximately 8:30 a.m., we will leave your hotel by minibus, heading towards the Tierra Mayor Valley, situated about 20 km from the city. The starting point of the trail features a shelter where we will gear up with crampons or snowshoes. Our hike begins by traversing vast snow-covered valleys, frozen streams, and ancient lengas and Coihues forests. Along the way, there is always a chance to spot local wildlife, such as foxes, condors, and beavers.

After nearly 2 hours of hiking, we will reach our destination: the Emerald Lagoon. This is one of the region’s most breathtaking landscapes, offering a stunning reward for your efforts.

Nestled in the heart of the Tierra del Fuego Natural and Landscape Reserve, the lagoon’s vibrant waters, surrounded by glaciers and the mountains of the Fuegian mountain range, provide an ideal setting to relax and capture amazing photos. Here, we will also pause to enjoy our lunch.

Once we have rested and recharged, we will begin our return to the refuge via a different route than the one taken earlier.

Finally, after another 2 hours of trekking, we will board the minibus for the journey back to Ushuaia.

Después de un año de trabajo intenso, necesitábamos desconectar, y esta caminata fue ideal. Éramos apenas diez personas, así que nuestros chicos pudieron avanzar a su ritmo, en un ambiente súper ameno. Martín, el guía, conocía cada tramo: nos mostró huellas frescas de castor junto al arroyo y explicó por qué el turbal se siente esponjoso. Llegamos a la laguna con tiempo para disfrutar y sacar fotos. Volvimos felices, cansados y llenos de paisajes increíbles.

Our guide, Clara, turned the Laguna Esmeralda trek into much more than a walk. She knew exactly where the muddy sections would be and explained how the beavers had changed parts of the valley without slowing the group down. Pickup in Ushuaia arrived at 8:05, just as promised, and everything felt well coordinated, from the transfer to the hot drink waiting after the hike. Clara kept a comfortable pace for both of us and pointed out a fox track we would have completely missed on our own.

Guide Martín kannte die Gegend bestens: Neben dem Weg zeigte er uns frische Fuchsspuren und erklärte, warum die Laguna Esmeralda je nach Wetter türkis oder graugrün wirkt. Seine Pausentipps waren Gold wert; wir kamen müde, aber begeistert zurück.
