Embark on an adventure along the Santa Cruz River, an iconic Patagonian waterway once navigated by the renowned explorer Charles Darwin.
Traveling on the legendary Route 40, we will set out in a 4x4 vehicle towards the river. There, we will retrace this historic journey by kayak, guided by a certified expert. Along the route, you’ll marvel at unique geological formations and encounter diverse wildlife. After paddling for 15 km, the experience concludes with a delightful riverside lunch.
Tour Description
The tour starts with the pick-up of passengers from their hotel in El Calafate. If your accommodation is not an authorized hotel (such as Airbnb or a private residence), the designated meeting point will be at the ACA Parking Lot or at the roundabout near the Tourism Secretariat. This is a true multi-adventure experience! We will set off in a 4x4 vehicle along the legendary Route 40 towards the Santa Cruz River, one of Argentina’s most iconic waterways. Once there, after receiving our equipment and a safety briefing from our expert guide, we will begin paddling downstream. Throughout the 15 km journey, you will have the chance to observe unique geological formations, fossil remains, and diverse wildlife—features that inspired Darwin during his famous exploration of this region. Our adventure concludes at Estancia Río Bote, where a delicious lunch by the riverside will be waiting for us!
The tour concludes with the transfer back to the passengers’ hotels in El Calafate.
