Tour Description
🚐 Transfer from El Calafate and Arrival at the National Park
Between 7:30 and 8:45 a.m., we will pick you up directly from your hotel in El Calafate to set out on an extraordinary adventure to Los Glaciares National Park, situated 80 km away. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is one of the most breathtaking destinations in Argentine Patagonia.
After about an hour's journey in a comfortable vehicle, we’ll reach Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, where your water adventure begins.
🛳️ Boat Ride with Views of the Perito Moreno Glacier
You’ll board a boat for a 20-minute trip across the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino, providing you with awe-inspiring panoramic views of the Perito Moreno Glacier — one of the few glaciers worldwide that is still advancing. This initial boat ride offers a preview of the incredible experience ahead.
🥾 Beginning of the Minitrekking: Walk on the Ice
Upon arrival on the opposite shore — accessible exclusively through this excursion — our certified bilingual mountain guides will welcome you and escort you to a small shelter for a short introductory briefing. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy a scenic walk along the lakeshore until you reach the glacier itself.
Here, the guides will assist you in fitting crampons — metal devices that attach to your shoes — to ensure a safe trek on the ice. After a brief technical explanation, the ice hike begins and lasts approximately two hours.
❄️ What You`ll See During the Glacier Trek
During your trek, you will experience:
- Incredible blue-hued ice formations
- Crystal-clear meltwater lagoons
- Crevasses, ice caves, and flowing glacial streams
- Fascinating insights into the glacier’s geology, formation, and rupture events
The glacier surface is uneven yet secure, as our guides always choose the safest route and offer assistance whenever needed.
This activity requires moderate physical effort, making it ideal for those in good health and within the recommended age range.
📸 Photo Stops and Relaxation
We’ll make several stops at strategic points for you to take photos — perfect for capturing memories or sharing on social media.
To celebrate the end of your trek, enjoy a glass of whisky served with ancient glacier ice — a truly unique way to conclude your adventure.
🧭 Perito Moreno Glacier Walkways
After returning to the shelter, we’ll board the boat again, cross back to the port, and then take a bus to the panoramic walkway area.
Here, you’ll have free time to:
- Enjoy lunch at the park’s restaurant or have a picnic (bringing your own packed lunch is recommended)
- Wander along the various viewing balconies — perfect for capturing incredible photos from different perspectives
🚐 Return to El Calafate
At the end of your visit, we’ll take you back to your hotel in El Calafate — the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable Patagonian adventure.
