Tour Description
Departure from El Calafate to take gravel road No. 15, also known as “Camino de las Estancias”. During the journey, it is common to encounter condors, foxes, and hares, with Cerro Frías as the main feature. After crossing the Río Rico, the steppe landscape changes abruptly, becoming a mountain landscape.
Then a walk is undertaken through the facilities of a typical Patagonian ranch that was formerly dedicated to sheep production and which today has been transformed into the most prestigious Hereford breeder in these latitudes and also maintains a flock of sheep.
In the stables, whoever has opted for the cabalgata will mount and go out to explore the surroundings accompanied by a Baqueano guide.
Meanwhile, the rest of the group will take a hike during which they will have excellent views of the South Arm of Lake Argentino, discovering various rock outcrops eroded by glacial action and changes in the lake`s water levels. Along the trails, we will explore a forest of lenga and ñire trees, home to caracaras, austral parakeets, hares, woodpeckers, eagles, and a wide variety of native flora and fauna. The route may vary depending on weather conditions. (Walk or horseback ride 45 m/1 h. Level: easy)
Al finalizar, el grupo se located at the door of the shearing shed and current historical museum of the Estancia.An opportunity to see a barn with all its components and understand the work that is done there.Among the daily activities, visitors can also participate in the morning milking and herding of sheep, thus concluding a typical workday at the Estancia. Some of these activities may be subject to change due to weather conditions.
Returning towards the Quincho where a lamb is being roasted on a spit, emphasis will be placed on the history of the place and anecdotes and stories of the first settlers will be recalled. Crossing through the vegetable garden, where most of the produce consumed on the ranch comes from, we`ll arrive at the barbecue area (Quincho) where the grill master will have the asado ready for the diners to enjoy a delicious Patagonian lamb while taking in the breathtaking view of the Andes Mountains. -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">At the end of the meal, we will return to the City of El Calafate.
