Tour Description
Your adventure begins when we pick you up directly from your downtown El Calafate hotel in a 4x4 vehicle. The journey takes you along the slopes of the Cañadon del Arroyo Calafate, where you’ll have the chance to spot local wildlife including guanacos, foxes, hares, and condors among other native species.
We then ascend for about 20 minutes to reach our first stop: the First Balcony. This remarkable viewpoint dates back to the Cenozoic Era, approximately 65 million years ago. Here, you’ll discover ancient fossils, sediments, and unique vegetation that reveal the history of a prehistoric sea that once covered this area.
Step out of the vehicle for a short walk to the Upper Balconies, set 1,100 meters above sea level. This extraordinary spot provides breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains, the expansive Patagonian Continental Ice Field, and the various arms of Lake Argentino. On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of the iconic Fitz Roy and Torre peaks in Chaltén. Thanks to the Balconies’ prime location above condor nesting sites, you’ll have an exclusive chance to watch the majestic Andean Condor in flight.
After taking in these incredible vistas, we begin our descent in the 4x4s, heading toward the historic Estancia Huyliche, a traditional cattle ranch established in the 1920s. Here, you’ll savor a mouthwatering 3-course local lunch paired with a glass of fine Argentine wine.
Once your meal concludes, we’ll bring you back to your selected hotel to complete your unforgettable day.
