Kayak And Trekking Rio La Leona
Tour Description
Our adventure starts with a hotel pick-up in El Calafate from 7:30 am. We will arrive at the excursion’s starting point around 9:30 am, at the abandoned inn on Route No. 40 Luz Divina - km 663. Here, our experienced guides will provide a brief safety briefing before we begin our journey.
Once prepared, we adjust the kayaks (participants in double kayaks, guides in single kayaks); followed by a safety and evacuation drill, practicing paddling techniques including forward and backward strokes, turns, and stops, as well as an explanation of the river’s dynamics. We then board the kayaks to commence our downstream navigation.
As we descend the river, we will witness breathtaking scenery and the striking contrast between the ochre hues of the Patagonian steppe and the turquoise glacial waters that once mesmerized renowned explorers like Darwin, Moreno, and Moyano. Small groups of up to 8 people ensure a personalized experience.
The first stretch of our kayak journey lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes (10 km). In the area of Cerro Fortaleza (Estancia la Meseta), we pause for lunch and a trek to Cerro Los Hornos, where you’ll reach a viewpoint with views of ancient bones and petrified logs. After a break , we return to the kayaks for the final 1-hour section (6 km), observing the region’s unique geological formations and steppe vegetation, covering a total distance of 14 km by kayak , ending at Estancia La Irene (Arroyo Turbio), where our excursion concludes.
At the Estancia, enjoy a snack with hot beverages to recharge.
Return to El Calafate in the afternoon.
