Tour Description
The excursion begins early in the morning with a pick-up from centrally located hotels in El Calafate. During the transfer to Los Glaciares National Park, the bilingual guide shares information about the region, its flora and fauna, and the day`s itinerary.
Upon reaching the South Glacier Pier, the journey begins along the South Arm of Lake Argentino, gradually venturing deeper into the Andes Mountains. The landscape constantly changes, shifting between mountains, forests, and enormous ice walls.
After disembarking at La Roca dock, the first hike begins, approximately 2 km through the lenga forest. The trail ascends to a natural viewpoint with incredible panoramic views of Lake Frías and then descends to its shore.
The adventure continues with the crossing of Lake Frías in an open semi-rigid boat, sailing for approximately 10 to 15 minutes until reaching the opposite shore.
From there begins the second trek, about 4.5 km long, crossing forests, moraines and ancient glacial valleys until reaching the impressive Laguna Frías Superior.
The tour culminates in front of a natural amphitheater formed by the Grande, Cubo, and Dickson glaciers, remnants of the ancient Frías Glacier. In this pristine and unique setting, you`ll have free time to relax, admire the scenery, and enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the glaciers, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, lunch will be served in a dome-shaped shelter near Lake Frías.
After the experience is over, the return journey follows the same route back to El Calafate at sunset.
