Trekking At Cristina Ranch In Fossil Canyon

The tour commences with the pick-up of passengers from their hotels in downtown El Calafate, followed by transportation to the excursion’s departure point. The initial stop is Puerto Punta Bandera , where we board a modern vessel that will transport us to the Estancia area to start our adventure.

Upon disembarking, specially equipped 4x4 vehicles will be ready to take us on a 9.5 km ride through Cordón Feruglio , along a mountain path that, until recently, was covered by glaciers. Along the way, we will enjoy remarkable geological scenery until we arrive at the Continental Ice Shelter.

From this point, we will set out on a hike of about 20 minutes to reach the Upsala viewpoint, located at an elevation of 550 meters. Here, we can take in the stunning views of Lake Guillermo, along with the impressive eastern face of the Upsala Glacier, the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, and the Murallón and Don Bosco mountains.

After soaking in the vistas from the lookout, we will embark on another trek descending toward the Cañadón de los Fósiles , an area renowned for its high concentration of fossils, remnants of the last marine incursion revealed by glacial activity.
