The Estancia San Lorenzo Natural Reserve is located within the Peninsula Valdés Protected Natural Area 160 kilometers from the city of Puerto Madryn, Patagonia Argentina.
A colony ofmore than 600,000 Magellanic penguins is located on its coasts, making it the largest continental colony in the world.
In addition to having the possibility of observing these wonderful animals in their natural habitat, in the area we can findmarine fossils that emerge in the cliffs and ravines that drain into the sea.
The Magellan penguin colony at the San Lorenzo ranch has shown constant growth since its establishment almost 50 years ago. This growth exceeds the 20% annual average since 1995. The penguins arrive every year during the first days of September and leave the reserve towards the end of April.

Tour Description
The trails and activities can be combined depending on the schedule. You will be able to choose between the following options:
*Penguin Experience, the classic tour
The trail runs through a nest area and permanent transit of penguins. In its middle part it has a coastal front from which you can see the immensity of the San Matías Gulf and the beach that the penguins use to enter and exit the water, also to rest. At the end of the tour are the ruins of the old sea lion oil factory. The duration of the tour is 1.30 hrs and there are departures from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
We also recommend the Sunset Experience, which is about the same Penguin Experience but on an afternoon outing, at 6 p.m., an excellent time to take the best photos, and accompanied by the highest concentration of penguins there is.
*Land of Penguins, mini-trekking and wildlife watching
This tour is a mini trekking through the area with the highest concentration of animals, a sector only used by Researchers and Park Rangers and accessed in small groups and in company from some Park Ranger of the San Lorenzo Ranch.
We visit the sector of “La Colmena”, named for the great density of nests that gather in this place and the < b>Pingüinera Canyon, an obligatory passage for penguins that must cross to access different nesting sectors.
One of the most beautiful sectors is the cliff area, which has also been occupied by the penguins to make their nests.
During the return we traveled through the upper part of the coast to return to the starting point. The duration of the tour is 2.40 hours and the departure time is at 10 am.
