Tour Description
The tour starts with a pickup from your accommodation in Ushuaia. Traveling along National Route 3, we cross the picturesque Tierra Mayor Valley until we reach the iconic Garibaldi Pass. Throughout this 50-minute journey, our guide will share fascinating details about the history, culture, and breathtaking scenery that surrounds us. This is an ideal moment to enjoy some traditional mate and take in the peaceful landscape.
Once at Garibaldi Pass, we pause to get ready for the trek. This walk is of easy difficulty and covers 4 kilometers, taking about 3 hours for the round trip. The trail features some ascents and sections with rocks and mud, but the reward is the incredible panoramic views of the mountain range. We’ll ascend to the edge of the forest, where the stunning twin lagoons await, and then continue to rock terraces that offer spectacular views of both Lake Escondido and Lake Fagnano.
At the summit, we’ll enjoy a hot drink and a traditional alfajor, giving us the energy to begin our descent. We then return to the van and continue to Lake Escondido, just 15 minutes away. Here, a delicious mountain stew is served as we prepare the packraft boats. These boats, either single or double, are stable and user-friendly. The lake crossing lasts around one hour, giving us the chance to truly connect with the water and surrounding nature.
If weather conditions prevent paddling, we have an alternative plan: a trek to the Velo de Novia waterfall in the Olivia River area. This one-hour hike, though brief, includes some steep sections and leads us to two waterfalls hidden among the rocks. We can even stand behind one of the falls and experience the powerful rush of water.
After approximately 7 hours of adventure, we’ll head back to your hotel in Ushuaia.
